THE NINE PORTALS OF PLANETARY INITIATION

THE FIFTH INITIATION – ANNUNCIATION
The Fifth Initiation flows naturally from the Fourth, and at this level of expanded awareness the Initiations often follow each other in relatively quick succession, that is, within a single lifetime. Now that you are married to your higher consciousness, the next thing that happens is that you become pregnant. This is the Annunciation — the mystical announcement of the imminent birth of the Christ. Much of the symbolism surrounding this Fifth Initiation is feminine in origin, flowing as it does from the third aspect of the sacred Trinity — the Holy Mother. On the lower planes, the feminine is expressed through the astral plane — the desire nature and the emotions. At a higher level, this plane relates to the fifth or buddhic body. At the Fifth Initiation, the exquisite emanations and refined currents from the buddhic body begin to penetrate the lower astral nature. This is a deeply tantric phenomenon in which you experience the sublimation of your sexuality into pure spiritual essence.

The Annunciation is a chemical phenomenon that saturates your whole being. Just as a woman during pregnancy is flooded with hormones, so you become aware that your body is being purified and cleansed in preparation for a great inner event — the birth of Christ consciousness. In the analogy of the church, this Initiation relates to the situation of the choir who preside over the altar and who represent the voice of pure worship of the Godhead. The connection between the throat centre and the sexual centre also becomes clear during this Initiation. When a person spontaneously enters a higher ecstatic state that appears to be ongoing, it is a fair assumption that they are entering this fifth portal of the Annunciation. Many different mystical traditions speak of this magical time of higher pregnancy in which the immortal foetus is gestating inside our solar plexus centre. It is one of the great enduring mysteries of creation.
In terms of the Initiation of species, humanity stands at the threshold of the Fifth Initiation today. Even now, there are whispers in the air of a new form waiting to come into the world. Little do we realise that this form is gestating inside our very DNA. The timeline for a species to undergo any Initiation is obviously very different from an individual, and for humanity it may take many hundreds of years for the Annunciation to become realised. We are about to enter a time of great purification, in which the feminine spirit of Grace will be working actively in the world. The fact is that as a species we have already been fertilised and are in the very first stages of pregnancy. Just as the body of a woman takes several weeks and months to register the changes externally, humanity will not become generally aware of the great change that is upon it for some considerable time. Only those who are sensitive to the subtler currents moving beneath the world of matter will detect the first signs of the new human that has now begun its period of gestation.
Enneagram Type 5 - The Observer
Fives are mental types who focus on intellectual understanding and accumulating knowledge. They are often scholars or technical experts because of their keen perception and analytical ability. Privacy and personal autonomy are very important to them, and other people may be experienced as intrusive. The ability to detach from other people and from emotional pressure confers personal freedom, but may also create loneliness.
Some people of this type may be intellectually brilliant or knowledgeable, while feelings and relationships present an enormous challenge. For others, family and friends are very important, but they will still need lots of time alone to pursue their own interests and re-create themselves. Fives need to balance their tendency to withdraw or withhold from people by reaching out to others, even if this involves discomfort or conflict.
Strengths: Scholarly, perceptive, self-reliant
Problems: Isolated, overly intellectual, stingy
Speaking style: Rational and technical, most comfortable in their area of expertise. Not big on "small talk."
Lower emotional habit: Avarice or hoarding, which means holding back and holding on to information, time, and other resources based on the fear of scarcity, either in oneself or the environment.
Higher emotion: Non-attachment, which is letting go in order to be available for replenishment.; trusting that there is enough.
Archetypal challenge: Participating in life with feelings, and integrating the inner and outer worlds
Psychological defenses: Fives use the defense mechanism of isolation to avoid feelings of emptiness and to maintain a self image of being "knowledgeable" and self sufficient. (Isolation can be physical separation, but it also means being cut off from one's emotions).
Somatic patterns: Fives tend to get stuck in their heads. It takes effort to bring attention to the body and the emotions. Energy is withdrawn from the periphery of the body and collects in the middle. Very sensitive to sound, touch, people, etc. they hold most of their tension in the gut rather than in the musculature, although the rib cage can be quite rigid depending on the level of fear in the body. Fives tend to "go away" behind their eyes.
